About the role
Join our backend team to build the core systems that power Athletr's activity automation. You'll work on our data pipelines, API infrastructure, and the intelligent systems that analyze activities and generate engaging content for athletes.
This role is perfect for engineers who love working with data and building reliable, scalable systems. You'll have the opportunity to work with interesting challenges in natural language processing, data synchronization, and real-time event processing.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain our Node.js/TypeScript backend services
- Design and implement data pipelines for activity processing
- Develop APIs that power our web and mobile applications
- Work with our activity analysis and content generation systems
- Optimize database queries and ensure data integrity
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems
- Collaborate with frontend engineers on API design
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical systems
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of backend development experience
- Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript
- Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
- Understanding of RESTful API design principles
- Experience with message queues (Redis, RabbitMQ, or similar)
- Familiarity with Docker and containerization
- Good understanding of security best practices
- Ability to work independently across time zones
Nice to have
- Experience with natural language processing or AI/ML
- Knowledge of the Strava ecosystem
- Experience with event-driven architectures
- Background in sports analytics or fitness data
- Experience with GraphQL
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi)
